First Nations

Glendore Public School currently has 76 students who identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander.  All First Nations students have a Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP).  Personalised Learning Pathways are an active process.  They are developed in a consultation process between the student, parents/carers and teachers, to identify, organise and apply personal approaches to learning and engagement.

STORYLINES

About Storylines

Storylines acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of Country throughout Australia and recognises the continuing connection to lands, waters and communities. They pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and to Elders both past and present.

The Storylines platform provides local community members, schools, organisations and the broader community with a culturally safe environment in which to share and celebrate Aboriginal, non-secret, non-sacred stories of history, culture and achievement.

The initiative provides an opportunity for all Australians to engage in Aboriginal histories and culture, promote conversations that build understanding and respect of Aboriginal people, and enables local communities to share stories from the past and present to inspire the future.

The Storylines initiative is provided by the Burraga Foundation, an Aboriginal owened and led not-for-profit organisation committed to supporting local connections and positive partnerships through technology.

Glendore Public School has published several successful initiatives on the Storylines website.

BREAKFAST CLUB

Eating a nutritious breakfast is important for everyone, especially for children.  Eating a healthy breakfast sets the tone for the rest of the day with good eating habits and it can provide up to a third of our daily nutrient needs.  It also improves your concentration allowing for maximum learning.  Breakfast Club is an Aboriginal Education Team initiative. Breakfast Club is offered to our students from 8:15am.   We will provide toast, spreads, fruit, milk, juice and water.  All students can come along and participate in the program.

PLPs

All Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have a Personalised Learning Pathway that is tailored to the student and is regularly reviewed and updated.  PLPs can have short term or long term goals.  Short term goals can be specific stepping stones to reach long term goals.
